Dear Leo and Abby,

I want to join a hapless group of twentysomethings trying to save their favorite cafe from closure after reading…

DUlggGeW0AMrO0M

Your comic has great characters that get into extra funny shenanigans. From cosplay, to candy dealing, to a crazy quiz bowl, to romance, to body issues, and insecurities. It has everything a twentysomething can relate to! I like how they all hang out and they feel like an honest friend group. There is some jealousy, anger, and sarcasm. There is plenty of love, laughs, and caring too! I really admire the way the group and their story is written.

The characters are really something special. They all are designed in a mindful way with consideration of their personalities. I like how diverse all the characters are and how we are slowly getting to know each one! I think Ebba is my favorite. So cute and buff! I think obviously Barry and Renee need to be together. I love how Sylvia is obsessed with food. I really enjoy how Evelyn is just mean! I am excited to see the turn Treeroot is about to take. That is, it seems like we are about to drive deeper into these characters and their insecurities, starting with Evelyn. I’m excited! I can not wait to learn more.

The art is amazing and the writing is awesome! You two make a great team!

Keep up the hard work and being creative!

Dear Rose Bousamra,

I felt STAR STRUCK reading…

Gutless

(because your comic’s setting is “the Realm of the Seven Stars. Ahem. Anyways.) I am so excited to read more and more of your comic! I am so impatient and I want to know what happens next! I like the relationship that Milo and Tesla have (for the most part.) When she wanted a friend, she found one in this wooden knight. I am anxious to learn  how Milo turns into their current form! I’m not sure how I totally feel about their friendship though, because Tesla seems to have no problem asking Milo to partake in “bad” things. Like, killing a one-eyed deer and capturing Ophie. And what’s up with that giant cat?! Hmm. I guess you’ll show us eventually.

I always like to see classic fantasy characters, but with a twist. You’ve made “the princess” a witch, “the knight” a magical wooden doll, and “the mermaid”…well we don’t know all her secrets yet. All your characters are unique, diverse, and well designed! Even the background characters have so much style and amazing outfits! You’ve created your own unique realm! Even if the realm has a “predictable” name, I don’t expect the adventures that happen there to be predictable! I can’t wait to see more! And if this is one realm, are there others?! Oh man, I wanna know!

Oh, and by the way your drawing style is unique and whimsical! Your use of color is amazing. It’s so beautiful. And I don’t know you as a person, but I assume you are unique, beautiful, and whimsical as well!

Keep up the hard work and being creative!

Dear Josh Tierney and Spera artists,

I am so very amazed and inspired by…

I mean… this collaborative story is just so wonderfully done. Josh, you have really done an amazing job at writing a wonderfully fantastical tale that the artists were able to really run with. Afu Chan and Sarah Ferrick created amazing character designs that I feel like all the artists interrupted in seriously rad ways! I am just so excited that you all were able to gather around this one story and really give your heart to it. To read the amazing group effort that is Spera is so inspiring!

Spera has really brought together some wonderful artists who work in a wide range of different mediums. Of course I have a bias for comics, but to see the story be told through paintings and illustrations gave me a new perspective on story telling. An example of this is J. Arashi Hara’s contribution. I mean page 3 of part 3 just blew me away! The sea is literally coming up over the land with all its creatures! It’s so stunningly horrifying.

Having text come before each artist’s section really helped blend everything nicely together. It was the common thread that provided context and backbone to Spera.

The fact that the style of Spera constantly is changing really lends well to the magical tale. It makes me feel like I’m looking though a kaleidoscope! I just felt swept away the entire time I was reading. I love it! I love Spera. I really really do. Amazing job. Josh and all the artist, you should be super proud!

Keep up the hard work and being creative!

Dear Jake Wyatt,

This comic had me just clapping at it’s excellence the whole time. That comic is…

Your work has such a wonderful, classical feel and is so intensely detailed. I was quickly sucked in and did not stop reading till I was to the newest update! You have very thoughtfully designed your world, your characters, and carefully curated the language you use. I am very impressed by your use of color and design. All your characters are very distinct and fully realized. I can clearly tell who is who, what they are all about, and what their role is in the story.

I am very excited to get on with the story going forward. I can not wait to know more about the Conqueror Queen and the Seer King. I am very interested in the politics of Hyberia as a whole! And of course I want to see what becomes of Clara and her journey. I really enjoyed your design interlude because it gave us a hint of what Clara could become. Yet, that may change, I still think it was great to see her in all the gear and fighting spirit!

Your design interlude was for sure one of my favorite things you have included on your site. It’s just amazing to see another artist’s thought process and how they come to realize their ideas. It’s just really inspiring! I also loved the cuts to the story of the Seer King and Conqueror Queen. It gives the story more depth and an interesting history.

I listen to highland instrumental music while reading through. I think that for sure intensified the magical aspects of Clara’s journey. You have already done a great job making Necropolis feel cinematic, but the music added a great touch!

And thanks to Kathryn for sure! Every artist needs someone to run things by and I am sure your guidance has helped Necropolis be the amazing story that it is.

Keep up the hard work and being creative!

Dear Readers,

I am in so much love love with…

YOU!!

It has been hard to post because so many awesome things have been happening with YOU!

I am so inspired by the awesome comic community and recently began branching out, talking to more and more people, and collaborating on awesome ideas.

I have been working on getting more stuff in my etsy, coming up/ following through with comic ideas, and going to/ planning going to conventions!!

I’m slowly inching towards a webcomic future! Not just a super-fan, but now a confident creator!! Some of my stuff is on my site now!!

I finished Sewer Cats and made it into a comic for Inktober! That was a great project and I super enjoyed it! Sewer Cats is an idea I held onto for too long! Glad to get it out there. Crazy cats trying to get a nice shiny can from an old, wise cat! Cute story and I had so much fun making it!

I recently went to NOCAZ fest in New Orleans and it was amazing. I had so many great conversations with artist. This younger artist even shared their portfolio with me and told me all about their ideas and we talked for so long. It was great. It was so different being behind the table. Let me tell you if you have always pined to be behind that table DO IT. You’re an artist and you’re real, so do it. I’m glad I waited and had merch I was proud of and had confidence to be there BUT I could have totally pushed myself sooner. But it is important to be proud of what you’re selling first too I guess.

ANYWAYS!

I am planning a couple new love letters and hope to get some added to the pile. Start off the new year right or something.

Get the shoebox from under the bed and feel free to read through some old love letter’s I’ve done! or at least check out my big comic list! Tons of awesome tiles.

If you LIKE updates like this, you can always comment and let me know. If you DON’T like it, do the same. Let me know if you’d be interested in an emailed newsletter!!

Dear Kate O’Neill (again),

I feel so warm and snuggly while reading…

I really love tea and I think dragons are so wonderful! Therefor, your comic is something that is easy to fall for! I love your subtle use of magic and just the easy going mood of your comic. It’s so light and dreamy. I love the characters and I feel like they are fragile and precious. Yet, their personalities are strong, honest, and resilient. I think your story is so cute and beautifully told.

I love how the moment when Greta drank tea from Erik and Hesekiel’s dragons. I really like the idea of sharing memories through tea and sharing yourself. I love how tea dragons have such a connection to their owners! AH! It’s all so lovely. I would hope to see you explore this further. To see Greta grown up. I loved how in the story she prized keeping up tradition. It did not see burdensome to her, but an honor. I like the idea of keeping up simple, beautiful traditions like making tea.

Here is my personal favorite brand of tea: https://www.zhenas.com/

I am currently drinking: https://www.zhenas.com/holiday-stackable-tea-bags.html

What are you drinking? Is your relationship with tea what inspired your comic? What kind of tea dragon would you have? I’d love to hear about it! Anyway, great work!

Keep up the hard work and being creative!

Dear Jonathon Wallach,

I feel inspired to go on an adventure by…

ranger

…but it’s probably better to stay indoors.

I have some warm and fuzzy feelings about your comic because it reminds me of those days going into the woods and fighting imaginary demons (yesterday.) Ranger Pugsly’s Camp for Adventurous Youth is super fantastical and quirky! I love it so much. It’s like reading in on a super dangerous DnD campaign with kids were they all are getting lucky against these highly dangerous monsters. The humor in your work is just awesome. It’s like “of course this is how things are. Not weird at all. doo doo doo.” And Josh is just the poor scared witness to all the madness. I LOVE IT!

I think my favorite moment is when Tim went into the woods and Ranger Pugsly “helped” him get over his fear of spiders! And he had log sandals. And then we learned about Spider Ork preservation. And it was all so amazing and wonderful. And you have so many amazing details in your story! You’ve built characters and settings that are so rich and creative!!

Your art style is awesome. Your backgrounds are detailed. Your characters are on point. It’s all sparkle sparkle love love love. I love it! And I love your twitter comics too. I can really tell when webcomic artists use their experience with animation to create their work. Your comics feel very cinematic and the development of your story is super good. Good good goooooooooood.

KEEP UP THE HARD WORK AND BEING CREATIVE!!

Love,

The Webcomic Whisperer
