Dear Sarah Fowlie,

I have a lot of feelings about…

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CDjYrlaWYAEXNDY.jpg

And here’s why: your characters are fudged up. All of em’! They are such complex and messed up characters that sometimes I question if Fritz is really the craziest or just truly a victim of it all. When I say fudged up, I pretty much mean human, but your characters seem to personify conflicting virtues and pose the question “what is really right or wrong?” Specifically with Fritz.  Yet, I think your most recent updates have shed some light on that for sure, but knowing your writing I expect even more to be piled on. I know you’ll deliver.

I usually do not write so…deeply? Truly your comic may be “dark” but there are so many glittery, hope-filled moments! Fritz is such a wild, and colorful character!! And the situations that happen because of him and around him just are unreal and hilarious at times! My favorite character of all though is Nemmi! She is a bad-butt, knows what she wants, and is pretty chill to a point.

I’m excited to read more and more of your comics until it’s sad end!! Who knows if it will actually be sad..or happy?! Either way, I can not wait to learn more about Fritz’s story. I worry about his and Eddie’s relationship being healthy? Since Eddie is infatuated with Fritz and seems to want to “fix” him.

Honestly, to close out my letter, I feel for Fritz. I don’t want to go into details, but I’ve been in similar situations as Fritz and reading your comic brought that stuff up for me. I haven’t been through what Fritz went through exactly, yet I see the characters around him and can compare them to people in my life. “The abuser”, “the fixer”, and etc. I just hope everything turns out okay for Fritz. I’ve gotten myself help and am doing great! I hope Fritz’s story will turn out similar. And if not, it will still always be a dang good story.

Keep up the hard work and being creative!

Love,

Dear Keezy Young,

I love the wonderful pastel, creamy sparkle dream that is…

Your comic is really something! Your color scheme is on point first of all! All the colors make me feel happy and warm inside!! I’m really loving your cast of characters as well. You have a cast with a great balance of sweet and salty! OH! I love their outfit designs as well! Everyone is so cute and their clothes look so flowy!

Your comic has a true fairy tale type of feeling. Your color scheme and style really aids in the fantasy. Yet, it is the way you illustrate wind, and spells, and the world moving that really makes the story feel so magical! I can not read more and learn more about the characters! I can not wait to see if what they unearthed was a blessing or a curse!!! Your story is super engaging, interesting, and I am so thirsty for more!

Keep up the hard work and being creative!!

Dear Kevin Budnik,

I really appreciate you sharing your life through twitter and comics like…

Your auto-bio comics  have been really some great work! One of the first things I do when getting on twitter is look for your comic updates. The things you go through and stuff you write about is very personal and I really appreciate it. Thank you for sharing your life through comics. It gives me something to relate to on some level.

Your stylistic choices really set the tone of your series. Your colors are muted, and your characters sketchy. It really feels like you are pulling these stories right from you head. Which, whether intentional or not, is pretty cool.

Putting your life out there, working on comics, and showing the sad times… it makes me feel a “this can only get better” type of feeling. If you get it down, if you draw it out, if you share it, then maybe it won’t be trapped inside and feel that bad anymore. Like, you are the protagonist and you’re going to find a “happy” end or at least find peace with everything. I hope you have found solace in at least knowing that your comics are awesome and they are worth making! If not for readers, at least for you!!

Keep up the hard work and being creative!

Interview w/ Aminder Dhaliwal!

I AM SO EXCITED I GOT TO INTERVIEW:

who makes the awesome comic:

Which is an amazingly hilarious feminist comic set in a world where all men are extinct. It’s great.

I love Woman World so much that I asked Aminder Dhaliwal to do a little email interview with me! And she did! Which is awesome and I am so thankful she took the time to answer my questions!

So, here is the interview:

Me: “Thank you so much for taking the time to answer some of my questions! I have been very inspired by your comic on Instagram called “Woman World” and wanted to get to know you better!

Q1: Tell me about yourself! Your background and a bit about the journey to becoming YOU.”

Aminder: “I went to Sheridan College (Oakville, Canada) for Animation. I knew I wanted to work in animation and the Sheridan curriculum allowed me to make a few student films. Students were also required to do internships for credits. In my senior year, Nickelodeon recruiters came to visit and advertise their production internships. I applied and after a few interviews I got the spot. I went over to Nickelodeon for the summer of 2011. I showed my student films around eventually (it was on the final day of my internship) got asked to take a storyboard test for an upcoming artist position. I flew back to Canada, took the test, sent it back and got the job. I moved out to LA in the fall of 2011 and stayed at Nickelodeon for 5ish years.  I learned so much at Nickelodeon. Nick has a great studio culture. I worked on Fairly Odd Parents, Robot and Monster, Sanjay and Craig and a new show coming out in 2018 as well as many mini projects in between. After that I moved over to Cartoon Network and have been directing on a new project for the last several months. Although I’m happy to have worked on popular shows, I’m happiest developing my own ideas and working on my own comics. “

Me: “Q2: What inspired you to make Woman World?”

Aminder:  “I still have the screenshots of the text messages when I pitched the idea to a couple friends haha. I can’t say exactly what it was, but I do remember coming up with the idea fairly shortly after the Women’s March in 2017. The march was so refreshing, exciting and supportive. Everyone (not just women) had a great time, I loved it. Soon after a couple different friends, and friends of friends posted their signs, t-shirts and banners from the march on social media, and we all  watched an instant backlash from certain types of people online. The idea for Woman World came fairly soon after, I never wanted it to be preachy or forcing any sort of message. Just a cute, tongue-in-cheek feminist comic.”

Me: “Q3:What is your vision for Woman World going forward?”

Aminder: I have a long form version. I will probably have to take a break from the Instagram version to focus on it. There are a few other things I’m trying to do with Woman World as well – but I’m afraid I can’t mention them.

Me: “Q4: Do you have some other projects in the works?”

Aminder: ” I have a couple other mini-comics, some are roughed, some are just ideas. I’ll also probably get back pitching to Children’s TV networks at some point.”

Me: “Q5: If given the choice, would you become an animal? If so, what animal would you become?”

Aminder: “A sloth, I think they’ve got things figured out pretty well.”

Me: “Q6: Finally, what message do you want to send to those reading to inspire them?”

Aminder: ” If you want to make stuff, make it. It took me a long to time to figure out what my voice is, but it would have taken longer if I didn’t make more stuff. Since putting out more comics and getting a good reception I’ve become more confident in what I’m trying to say and my own creative voice and how it differs from others.”

THANK YOU SO MUCH AMINDER!

I hope readers liked learning more about you! I sure did!!

I WANT to publish more interviews on this site. So, please let me know on twitter or email me if you have any idea as to who I might interview next!

Keep up the hard work and being creative!

Dear Benji Nate,

I just got to write about…

Cat Boy

How could I not?! Your comic… I am literally living for it you have no idea. The moment I saw it on Vice I was like “This is me. This is my aesthetic. This is everything I could ever want!” Always ordering pizza, painting clowns, dressing cute head-to-toe, and being best friends with a cat boy?! Olive is my spirit animal and all I could aspire to be! I really enjoy reading Olive and Henry’s slice-of-life adventure! It’s great!

Aside from you drawing some amazingly cute doki doki characters, your colors just make me swoon. Those pastels and mute tones are just MWAH! So good. And I love your text placement. I think it is so fun and interesting when you take words out of comic bubbles and place them on the page to make them apart of the composition. You’ve really put together an adorable and spunky comic that I can’t get enough of!! I have pre-ordered the book with stickers! I’m about to get a “cool boy” shirt! I am just in love with this brand. In love with this comic. In love with the cat boy life-style!!!!!!

Keep up the hard work and being creative!

Dear Webcomic Artists,

Reading your work has been something that has always excited me. “New Update?! AWESOME” Yet, it took me doing this blog and really looking into what made webcomics happen to truly appreciate/ understand them and their creators. I have followed a lot of careers throughout my reading years and I really admire all the hard work that goes into creating a story that is 100% yours.

You put in hours creating content that people can share and enjoy from anywhere. You don’t know who it may impact and how much it means to people but you put it out there anyway because it means something to you. And that’s what matters, how much it means to you. Because as a reader, I can tell. I can tell if you’ve poured your heart and personality into something. I can also tell when you haven’t and are just trudging along. Either way, you are trying and growing and killing it!

Some of you want to quit and I see it a lot on twitter or when a webcomic page stops updating. It’s really sad, but makes sense. You all have skills that deserve to be recognized and compensated for. Your time is worth something and it’s good to realize that. Whatever your reason to quit or keep going, know that it’s all up to you and your happiness.

I hope that you will keep going. I hope that you continue to find value and joy from creating and sharing. I want you to be fulfilled and to make things you are proud of. And you should be proud! Because you put out content that is amazing and special and unique. Things that publishers or studios may not want to put out there, but you do because you believe in it and you know others may too. And I believe in it!

If you are reading this and are a creator, keep it up! If you are reading this and are a webcomic reader, show your support! Write your own letter, tweet at creators and let them know you love them! They want to hear from you!! Know that they don’t owe you anything! You owe them! And they owe everything to themselves for making great work!!

Keep up the hard work and being creative!

Dear Kyle Latino,

I’ve been inspired to grow a beard by…

Image result for she dwarf comic

Your comic is so charming and hilarious! I really love all the colorful characters and am excited to see more of the adventure as it comes out. My favorite characters are for sure She-Dwarf and Hack! When She-Dwarf tore off Hack’s beard?! …that was awesome!!! The action was so clear and cleverly drawn. You’ve really taken the time to create a visually interesting tale.

And I love stories with their own lore! I can not wait to learn more about yours. Will She-Dwarf make it to Dammerung?! It reminds me of an epic DnD adventure! I LOVE IT! Also, I mean, the character expressions are amazing! Hack cracks me up with his detailed and extreme reactions! You’ve done a great job making all your characters distinct and memorable. Oh, and the colors POP they are so bright and beautiful! Makes your comic look really crisp and exciting! GREAT JOB!!!!!! I can not wait to read more!

Keep up the hard work and being creative!
